If a family deposited money in New York banks in the 1940's how can they recover the money.?
To make a long story short my family lived in germany before ww2 and my great grand father depositted money in banks in New York and Switzerland. He was killed by the germans for not cooperating with the Nazi's. and when my great grand mother and garnd father got to the US after the war the bank refused to release the money because she was not on the account and most of the document were destroyed during the war.

Find the website for the state of New York and find the section for unclaimed goods or unclaimed money. Do a search for your great grandfather's last name and see what comes up. If there is money listed, contact the state about how to claim it.

Well, the bank no longer has the money. Take whatever documentation you have to the New York State unclaimed funds department and see if they have any records of it and any way they can help you.
