Why are some people ignorant enough to think a border fence will actually work?

Why are some people ignorant enough to think a border fence will actually work?
The berlin wall had machine guns, and even that did not prevent people from going to West Germany. The only way to curb illegal immigration is make it so they is no benefit to coming here. If they cannot find work, if they are refused medical care, and if they cannot find a place to live, they will not come to America. Have you ever seen a Mexican climb a fence? a fence will not even slow them down. Instead of wasting millions of tax dollars on a failed idea (something wannabe conservative have been doing alot of lately) lets pass some laws to make it so hard to live here, they just stop coming. But then Bush and Big Business would have not have all that cheap labor to make money off of.

The Berlin wall split a nation. This wall will seperate 2 nations. It won't be foolproof but it will make things a lot harder but God forbid we make it hard for criminal aliens to enter the country.
2 :
Bingo! You hit the nail on the head. As long as a Mexican national can earn 5-10x in the US, what they would make in Mexico, illegal immigration will not stop.
3 :
Tell us about your education and intelligence. I want to become smart enough to know that the Berlin Wall failed.
4 :
But have you considered the technology that we have today vs when the Berlin wall was up? We have access to cameras, motion detectors, all sorts of things that weren't really accessible back in those days. A fence might not keep all of them out, but would be sufficient enough to keep 99% of them out. Don't you think?
5 :
Did 12 million illegal east germans cross into west germany? The fence is a deterent method. It isn't 100% foolproof. It has been proven in southern california to slow down illegal immigrants.
6 :
I live in San Diego and the border fence that was errected has reduced illegal border crossings by over 60%. It may not stop illegal immigration completely, but it's a start. Have said it before and I will say it again......before you start bailing water out of your boat, you first must plug the whole to keep more water from pouring in. Simple as that.
7 :
The fence would slow them down. Trust me millions of people weren't going over the wall. I do agree it is not the answer, you have the total right idea, but its getting people to not rent them homes, to not give them jobs is the real problem. This bill is designed to allow all that to be legal. It says it will crack down on employers but we know it won't.
8 :
you answered it,ignorance. people will find a way. there is a story in the news now about 3 national guard members smuggling illegals in government vehicles
9 :
no it wont *SOLVE* ileagal immigration, but it will put a curb on it. besides, noone will agree to my 100 mile scorched earth policy. honestly, a 100 mile dead zone of mildy radioactive waistland would keep em out.
10 :
When Fox News speaks - some people actually listen and believe......... -- Ryan (below me) is a PERFECT EXAMPLE of this.
11 :
As I have said many times, people will continue to come to the United States if there was no work for them here or there was better conditions in Mexico. I have heard of illegal aliens making somewhere around $15 to $20 in some areas because of the labor shortages. Its not that big business refuses to pay good wages, its that Americans refuse to work these jobs even if they pay $20 an hour. How many college graduates would be happy to say their child is picking fruit even if they made $20 an hour?
12 :
Start threatening employers with jail and if the illegals can`t get hired maybe it won`t be worth it to come over illegally. The corporate republican elite won`t have it
13 :
I say that it will help to decrease the immigration by foot but, they always will find the way to come in. So like I predicted before about that the same Border Patrol, Military Police etc will get their business going on so they ca make cash. Have you hear about the Military guys that supposed to help border patrol agents? They where smuggling illegals in the US. Just like Coyotes. $5,000.00X 24=$120,000.00 that is how they was going to get pay just for a few hours I say about 5 hours. of course that is divided by the 3 military guys plus the coyote that bring them all the way to the border then the smugglers will bring them across the border remember they are from National Guard=Military so they supposed don't get caught. Well remember is planes boats so immigration will decrease by foot but it won't do much is another ways to enter the US. Immigration will decrease if employers stop hiring illegals yes other wise it won't. A wall won't really stop illegal immigration.
14 :
Arent you the racist to think that its just Mexicans climbing the fence? What? ALQaida forgot how to climb? Maybe we should ask whats so wrong with Mexico that they all coming here...or is whats RIGHT with America?
15 :
The Berlin wall was successful. Just ask the Germans. The idea has been working quite well in Korea for over 50 years, and it worked for a few centuries in China. Why is the asker here so ignorant of history? I think the asker of this question is a liberal in disguise...

what do you think about lrgalizing all drugs?

what do you think about lrgalizing all drugs?
Prohibition does not prevent cannabis use by children or the mentally ill, the vulnerable populations whom we supposedly want to protect. Instead, cannabis prohibition makes it more difficult for parents, patients, society, doctors and law enforcement to control cannabis use. The Drug War makes honest education about cannabis impossible, and leaves cannabis users marginalized in ways that make their lives more stressful. This stress is unhealthy for everyone, but it is certainly most damaging to people with schizophrenia. Cannabis prohibition is not merely a failure; it is a counterproductive fraud that is harming those whom we claim we want to protect. There are currently more teens in treatment centers for marijuana in comparison to those admitted for alcohol. Only an idiot would have to ask why alcohol is not the no#1 problem after all alcohol is perfectly legal ( If you are 21.) That is due to responsible people handling alcohol by way of the carding and id system. Contraband markets make no age disgression. Since the crackdown on tobacco there are 75% fewer teens trying or using tobacco. However when it comes to cannabis and other illicit substances it’s a whole other ball game. Control, regulation and better education work prohibition, dose not. Or as John Walters of the ondcp (Office for national drug control policy) calls it “ a war on drugs” (Sorry John but it's true look at the Netherlands) America loves a war even if it is on it’s own people. One of several reason they don’t legalize drugs is not because of the harm of drugs, But people would lose more money in the long run. Some of the people behind the support of this irrational so called war are The tobacco industry, the alcohol and distilled spirit industry ( people simply don’t drink as much, or decide not to drink at all with cannabis meaning a decline in there sales. The pharmaceutical corporations can not make money on whole or raw cannabis, but they can charge an arm and a leg for there synthetic Marinol (dronabinol) CIII. The textile and paper industry would lose out from hemp production, sinse hemp dose not need to go through all the various processes that ordinary tree products would. Also it’s possible to get two harvest in one season. However people don’t know the difference between industrial hemp and smokeable cannabis, yet they are able to distinguish between the two in other country’s like Germany, the UK , Netherlands and even Canada, but our `DEA agents are so dumb they cant tell the difference between a stalk and a bush. Also people who have any knowledge of growing high quality cannabis will tell you that male plants should never be grown next to your high grade female plants, (unless of course you want to pollinate for future seed production). When it comes to farming hemp the males are left in tact to pollinate the females and produce as much seed as possible. This would mean a seedy mess for the pot smoker to clean up and produce undesirable future generations of smokeable cannabis. If anything, Hemp farming would be anti marijuana and would harm any outdoor pot farming within a one mile radius of any hemp farm. The petroleum industry would also be affected, sinse almost everything that can be made from petroleum can be synthesized from hemp oil, everything from bio fuel to even plastics. If North America would use a third of it’s land for hemp production we could create enough bio fuel to supply an area the size of Canada. Now also for a moment consider how many people are incarcerated over just cannabis who are currently in the prisons and jails. If cannabis were legalized and all inmates serving time for cannabis were freed there would be an over abundance of empty cells, and millions of guards in this country would be no longer needed. The prison building industry would almost be obsolete ( and if all drugs were legalized that would mean even more empty cells). So the prison system must have some means of gaining more inmates. Not to mention other areas such as treatment centers, probation.etc or HIDTA high intensity drug traffic areas where money is fed in to law enforcement, (they would miss there green $$$) Drugs , not even alcohol are the cause of the fundamental ills of society, rather than checking people for the presence of drugs, they should first test people for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power. Are you on drugs? Maybe some spelling help is in order.
2 :
I think lrgalizing all drugs is a great idea. Maybe one could straighten out your spelling. Truly, though, it takes a constitutional amendment to make a substance illegal, as was recognized with alcohol prohibition. Since the government doesn't care about the Constitution any more, what law can be considered binding?
3 :
To state this simply: The govt. has no right to regulate what you put into your body, whether it is marijuana or Kentucky Fried Chicken.
4 :
Straight legalization would not be smart in my opinion.....However I do believe in a different type of legalization. I think that we should have clinics where anyone can go and get their drugs free. They would be required to stay there - by force if needed while they are under the influence. They would have access to medical while there. Yes all of this at taxpayer expense. We are already paying for most of these addicts medical. We pay for their food. We pay for their housing. We pay for their crimes as victims. And we pay for their stays in jail % prison. I firmly believe that this method would be much cheaper, would eliminate up to 70% of the crimes committed and allow good citizens to experience far less crime as victims. And I don't believe that we would be adding any more addicts to our problems. All the clinics would offer programs to get off of drugs. Now only the worst offenders get on the programs and they usually have no intention of stopping their use. Under my idea, smart inner city kids would be given a medical education free for their future service at the clinics.
5 :
Is legalizing drugs really good for the people as a whole? you would have an open market sales of drugs and it would be out on the streets common place of events. even those not smoking would be affected by the 2nd hand smoke as well. it is not a beneficial item to add to americas already full legal drug market.

just live on a whim, take life as it comes and just do whatever i please knowing that i don't have to worry about $. Don't think i'd do anything ridiculous though...
4 :
Very simple answer....I would create a charity to help sick children, the elderly and impoverished at Christmas time and all year long. We need to help our fellow man...(food, clothing, medicine, housing etc.) people need help! Do the majority of lottery winners think WHY they have been blessed with sudden wealth? Its such a sad shame most cannot get past what new car, clothes, homes, bling they are going to buy. I implore all of you, if God blesses you with a lottery win..PLEASE help humanity in some way..even if its a small way it still counts and you're a better person for it!! God Bless You!
5 :
I would pay off the Yahoo! Answers people so they'd never allow this question again. It's asked every day, and it only encourages people to waste their money on lottery tickets. You don't need 60 million to get out of America, by the way. If you don't like it here, just get on a boat, man. Friggin' ingrate.

Hookers and blow.

I will spend 50% as saving & 50% on www.casinostoplayat.com

If you taught English in Japan, then they may pay for your housing and incidentals so you would not need to win the lottery to live the dream.

11-14 year olds who want to earn money online?
Okay, I've seen loads of things about 11-14 year olds who want to make money online but can't because they are too old. I'm 13 and thought if every 11-14 year old worked to together and used paypal we could find away that everyone makes money. The requirements are : You are in years 7 - 10 in the U.K. You are 11 - 14 in America You are in years 6 - 9 in Germany and so on. If everyone combined worked together online we could start a big business. What do you think? 2 Weddings or flying? My Parents live in Germany and my fiances family in the USA. What makes more sense?
I really want my family with me. everybody does. But my parents and Parents-in-law do not have a lot of money. Makes it sense to "ship" one family? Or makes it sense to bring my parents over here for one wedding and his parents over to Germany for the other one..... Its so hard!!!

One wedding and fly the family in.
2 :
I would have two ceremonies, but before planning I would talk to members of both families to make sure they understand why you're doing it. If you live in the states have an official mairrage here then fly over there and have a simple ceremony. That way everyone gets to be a part of your wonderful day (or days I guess).
3 :
Try to figure out which place host the wedding will be cheaper including air tickets and hotel fees. Don't invite too many guests and have informal or causal wedding will helps too.
4 :
Wow. Very tough decision. I was here once and it broke us up. I wanted everyone here in the US, he wanted everyone near his home in Europe. Try picking a place in-between. Maybe the Caribbean or Ibiza? Make it a vacation for both families, tell them neither is to pay for anything, but the vacation to be with you and your mate on that special day. Ich wunche dir veile Gluck!
5 :
One wedding ceremony, 2 receptions. I had friends that did this, excpet their family was in Oregon and Chicago, not so drastic as yours. This way you don't have to worry about the formality of the ceremony and can just celebrate with family and friends! Or I would suggest just do 2 weddings. They probably can't be as glamorous as if you were just having one, but it will mean so much to the family. Besides, i would love to relive my wedding day again, here's your chance!
6 :
You only have a wedding day once in a lifetime if you do it right the first time. 2 weddings? How do you decide where the first will be? How do you capture that magic all over again for a second? Do the right thing and bring your parents here. Get on a registry from a store that is in the USA and Germany so your parents friends and/family from Germany can join in on the gift giving. Best wishes for a long and happy marriage.
7 :
1 small wedding. 1 video recorder. 2 big receptions with a big screen looping the ceremony.
8 :
We had the same issue and ended up doing two very small weddings; the second one was just a reception. We both had too many people to fly. I would say it depends on -How much can you afford -How many people would need to fly -Can you accommodate all these people if they fly -Will anyone be offended if you do 2 weddings? You could also try to make a second wedding the beginning of your honeymoon... Lots to consider!
9 :
i would say two weddings. the family can put you up in the country you don't live in. also both should help cover wedding expenses. some of what they saved on hotel rooms plane tickets and food should be put towards your wedding
10 :
I have a friend in the military who married a Japanese woman. They got married in Japan with a traditional Japanese ceremony and took tons of photos. For their one year anniversary, they came back here to the states. They had a small "traditional" american wedding as a renewal of vows for family and friends to attend. At the reception (picnic at his parents house) they laid out the photo album of the wedding in Japan. I took a pile of pictures of the renewal of vows ceremony and made a photo album full of pictures (and put them all on cd also). They took that album home to Japan for her family to see what happened here. I hope this helps. I just thought of a second option...go on a cruise or somewhere romantic and get married, just the two of you and then hold the two receptions like people have already suggested.
11 :
Fly them both in.

Can anyone think of a single war that DID NOT the revolve around money?

Can anyone think of a single war that DID NOT the revolve around money?
This is in the RELIGION section because this was part of my response to the question... 'Is religion slowly killing us?" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080803234305AA0RQz0&r=w#F7h5DWrkFFjS1VJUqF6J "if it wasn't in the name of god, it would have been in the name of money.greed, gold, whatever else you want to call it." Everything is about money! They use God and ideaologies as bait for those who have little money. How could they possibly convince the poor... "Go fight for me so that I can make more money." No instead, the rich wrap things up in ideaology, fight to save us. fight for freedom. for God and country... Support the troops! But even when they are defending us, it is because someone else wants OUR money. No, ALMOST EVERY WAR IN ALL OF HISTORY was about MONEY. Think about it a second and if you can come up with even ONE that wasn't feel free to message me! WWII- Germans had to pay reparations for WWI. The German mark was tanking. Hitler didn't like that so he started to expand Germany to bring back it's wealth and pride. American Revolution- No taxation without representation. Civil War- Slaves were PROPERTY. The War on Drugs- the dealers cartels or whoever make money off of their product because there are people willing to buy it. At the same time it costs the government billions because of rehab programs, law enforcement, social services for family members. The Cold War- two different economic systems battling for world power. Don't be too quick to answer "Power" or "Land"... Without money, one's power is GREATLY diminished, even non-existent. (Look how the poor are treated!) Land- What is land good for? NATURAL RESOURCES. Which helps society make MONEY. The Vietnamese may not have gotten richer, BUT the Vietnam War was apart of the Cold War. Russia and the USA used countries like Vietnam as pawns on the map. Because of the Crusades, trad with the Mid East and Asia increased greatly. Side effect of original intent, both can be argued. The Trojan War was a part of Greek MYTHOLOGY not History. (You can Google it up if you'd like.) David v. Goliath was about LAND. And if the Israelites had failed, they would have been forced into slavery. WWI- Economic Imperialism The 30years war- claimed as a religious war, but was actually a rivalry between France and the House of Hapsburg for political power. War of the Roses- House of Lancaster and York. Power Struggle. Land expansion was also involved. War of the Roses Yes. But why were the British and Scottish in Ireland? There had to be something they wanted (resources). The motivation for the Irish themselves was self defense. But for the Brits/Scots who were invading, it was money/resources... My examples were OVER simplified for efficency and readability. Thank you ALL for you input!

I don't think the Vietnamese got richer. *The Vietnam "Police Action" was about Communism not money as was the cold war.
2 :
You could try the crusades. All they wanted was to kill Muslims, burn mosques, and take Jerusalem. Sure the soldiers looted and pillaged, but that wasn't the actual intention of the war, that was just soldiers being greedy. Your wars revolve around America. Try different eras and nations, you'll find some good wars. Edit: Ah, but the intention of the Crusades was not its side effect. Weak argument. Trade occured on the part of opportunists and merchants, not generals and kings.
3 :
the civil war was partially about slavery but slaves were not money....i think that war was more about the confederates trying to keep the black man down. Technically, you could make every single action that has ever happened about money.
4 :
The revolutionary war didn't solely revolve around "no taxation without representation"
5 :
i consider the civil war to be more about freedom and equality rather than property. sure, one side wanted to keep slavery, but the war itself was fought over freedom and liberty. -Christian
6 :
star wars- a young boy who has sex with his sister works out his daddy issues. cartoon wars- cartman wanted to have family guy taken off the air because he thought it was stupid. Kyle liked family guy so he tried to stop him, neither had a financial interest so no money involved.
7 :
War on Terror *snickers*
8 :
The Trojan War. It was fought over Helen of Troy.
9 :
If you want to understand wars, then ask what resources were being fought over. Money is a medium of exchange, it is the resources that are the cause of war. In the Civil War the resources that really caused the problem where the Western territories and who was going to control them. Slave states wanted to be able to exploit the resources with the slave property while capitalist interest with their own labor or with paid labor. Even the crusades were about control of land.
10 :
Money may be a contributor, but I think the worst violence/wars are/were created because of religious intolerance!
11 :
There were wars before there was money. Case closed.
12 :
if you are refering to all the US wars then you are correct accept the war in iraq which is supposed to bring peace but is destrroying you have over looked the fact that there has been thousandths of wars like the trojan war where they fought over a woman
13 :
The war when Israel fought the Philistines. This was the war with David and Goliath. It wasn't about money
14 :
Wasn't there a war, albeit a small one, that erupted between a bunch of soccer fans somewhere in Europe?
15 :
WW I Thirty year's war War of the Roses
16 :
I think you've simplified it too much with "money". My personal belief is that wars are fought over resources (many times because a lack of them) and that religion helps people pick sides.
17 :
I think it is a fair statement to say that many wars have economic bases. But there are notable exceptions, for instance the 1967 War (The Six Day War) was about occupation of Gaza and (from the Israeli POV) border security. Yes it was land, but not particularly valuable land from a resources perspective. The War on Drugs is not about monetary gain, and is not really a war. More of an oppression. The Civil War was not about slavery, but about States rights vs Federal Gov't's rights. It had vast economic EFFECTS, but was not prosecuted from economic reasons. Just a few thoughts. I still agree with your basic thesis that many wars have economics as their root causes.
18 :
You asked the question in the right forum: 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
19 :
War is the shooting stage of an economic struggle.

When you immigrate, you open a bank account and deposit money into it. The bank will then give you a bank card.
