How hard will it be for a 18yr old from Arizona to move to Cologne Germany?
I am slowly but surely learning the language. I plan on flying out to Austria and staying there for about a month with a friend and her family . Sometime in august i plan to take a train over to Cologne and stay with a friend for a while until i can find an apartment. How hard will it be for me to get a job? Ill even do like labor work i dont care what i do as long as i make some money. I will have about 4000 euros when i arrive. I also looked up and all i need is a residency permit to get a job and i am soon going to Los Angeles to get it at a registration office. My great grandfather was born in Germany as well but i dont think that will really matter since he is a great. Should i stay here in Arizona? Or should i follow my dream and be with some really good friends of mine in Germany?

You should definitely go to Germany for the experience! Please keep in mind that most northern Europeans are narrow-minded, racist, nationalistic, stuck up and completely anti-American. This will definitely effect you being able to get a job. Finding an apartment will be no problem because Europeans think all Americans are rich or are willing to go so far into debt that we will give them their money regardless. Oh and be prepared to be treated like an idiot, constantly. It won't be as hard as you think to relocate.

You need a visa and money

It will be difficult to get a work visa and if your great grand father had citizenship, that wouldn't be enough for you to get citizenship rights. I heard that if your grand parent was a citizen, then it might be possible, but they have a strict cut off after that. Otherwise there would be many Americans who could easily get citizenship. The best bet would be to have a German company sponsor you. If you worked at say "Adidas," they send American workers over there all the time. But to just get a job, would be working illegally. You would have to do it under the table. Good luck though. I'm jealous. My German professor komt aus Köln. (Came from Cologne) I've always wanted to go there and see the famous Hohe Dom Kirche in Köln. Guten Tag und aufwiedersehen!
