Was Nazi Germany's establishment of Hitler as a 'supreme ruler' an example of a cult of personality?
I'm just rather curious- the whole 'Seig heil, all money and power to Hitler' thing kind of makes it seem like he was pretty arrogant at least, but I'm wondering if that was just a simple trait redolent of a cult of personality or the entire Nazi Germany theme was constructed as a cult of personality. {{Um, by the way, sorry if my phrasing is bad. :D}} Thanks a bunch!

it was a cult of personality, of course it was, many totalitarian regimes are also personality cults. With Hitler it wasn't really money what he was aiming for (for ex he paid for some of his own stuff, he didn't loot things for himself like Goring did, etc) but about the power, he wanted power, he wanted to be a great ruler of a great nation ,he wanted to establish himself as the greatest leader of the most powerful, successful, orderly nation. The Nazi Party would have probably had much less of an appeal without Hitler. Sure, in those days, with those problems, if there had been someone else instead of Hitler but with the same plans(socially speaking) maybe they would have managed to get a majority but I doubt that the party would have risen to the extent Hitler helped it rise. Hitler was one of those people who, at least at that time and maybe inexplicably so to us today, had a special type of charisma and magnetism especially when he held one of his speeches so the whole regime was constructed around him both cause he was the supreme leader and because image wise he was the most magnetic of them all. It was definitely a cult of personality.

Yes Hitler developed a cult of personality where all Germans must be completely loyal to him over everything else. Even in the last days when it was obvious they will lose, many stayed loyal and practically worshiped him. Many commited suicide rather than surrender so they don't be judged as being disloyal to him. Many soldiers killed anybody showing any disloyalty to Hitler in the last days.

yes,he was a power crazed fanatic and had all the qualities of a cult leader. ok, he was far from good looking, unlike jim jones, but his status lay with his position in government, and eva brown loved him despite the fact he had one ball!! so yes, cult personality all over.
