why would you want her to visit you!? thats heartbreaking, she came to visit you, met a different guy, and married him!? why would you take her back?
2 :
I wish I could give you simple advice but the truth is that your friend's problems are a blend of immigtration and citizenship as well as live-in love problems. She truly needs a lawyer versed in immigration. I know the money is tight but she has a right to some form of support for her baby from this loser she dated and only a lawyer could sort that out.
3 :
i think she can come on a visitor visa!? but i don't think she can get a divorce from there!
4 :
maybe not because she is married to one in the US.. should be a spouse visa.. i think.. u can probably search that online..

Wouldn't it make sense to remove all Troops from Non-Combat Foreign Posts, for long term savings to taxpayers?
Germany Japan S. Korea And on and on,bring them home. Why waste our money keeping Troops there, let them pay for their own Troops if they need them.

That would be a great idea, until we looked around and realized that Russia, China, and the United States were the only three countries left in the world.
2 :
It would be good for our economy, but our allies may not like it. I say who cares what anyone else thinks because when it comes right down to it the only person who has your best interests at heart is you.
3 :
Yes. The Constitution does not Grant the power of the Federal government to base American troops on foreign soil... As any conservative constructionist knows, only the states can do this...
4 :
That's not why they're there. Troops are in Germany in case Russia starts being stupid. Japan and South Korea in case North Korea starts being stupid.
5 :
I think so, but when I've said that, people have made some good arguments for keeping them all around the world. Some have said they need to be in non-domestic posts in case we need to deploy them to a place where violence pops up. Sounds plausible.
6 :
Technically, the ones in South Korea are not non-Combat posts, since the war never officially ended.
7 :
Whimsy- Bases in foreign countries are American soil. No it wouldn't make sense in the long run, those bases are used every day to support combat areas.
8 :
And what kind of jobs are here for them to do when they all get back? Savings to taxpayers? I think not.
9 :
the reason our troops are still there is the reason that there all non combat areas, once there all gone, things change. our troops are in these areas to let the other side know that we can strike and hit em hard within a hours notice anytime we want to, 24/7/365 the bases in korea/japan are there not to protect these countries but to let the russians and chinese know that were right next door, as far as germany that's a short flight to moscow/st, petersburge the day we move out of thee bases is the day the far left get some balls and make trouble again.
10 :
It would actually cost the taxpayers of this country a LOT less to close down every single foreign military base, and build 2-3 dozen nuclear aircraft carrier tasks forces to patrol the world's hot spots from international waters instead. Imagine that for a moment...... 24 nuclear powered Ronald Reagan size aircraft carriers with the most technologically advanced aircraft and weapondry on the face of the planet, plus support vessles, patrolling the world's oceans without a single US footprint on foreign soil. Sounds good to me.
11 :
Meant to be more of a deterrent than anything, but yeah. I think the US likes having this kind of control in those countries.
12 :
I'm undecided on this. Partly because Germany for example is used as a forward staging and training ground for our troops. It's closer to where the action is in Afghanistan for instance. While I was there the majority of Germans wanted us to stay for various reasons, economic being one of them. South Korea? I'm not sure we can leave without the area blowing up. Now would I like to bring the troops home? Yes. I have family in the combat zone right now.
13 :
Germany and Japan, yes. S. Korea, unfortunately, no.
14 :
Yes! Definitely! & also to honor a tradition of not getting embroiled in foreign entanglements.
15 :
Actually, the bases the US maintains in Europe are arguably the most useful. Mostly because there we hold troops that train to fight effectively with our NATO allies. Moreover, we make it possible for Europe having a civilized relationship with Russia (which is in our economic and political interest) because if Russia moves, we hit them. If Europe moves, we pull the plug and let them fend for themselves. We have a vested interest in guaranteeing the sovereignty of our allies, Japan and South Korea. Either we let the Japanese have an actual army, or we protect their asses. South Korea can theoretically fend for itself, so we could scrap our bases there. We can reach it in a day from Japan, where we hold bases, so what's the need for bases on Korea?
16 :
Before ICBMs with nuclear weapons, I would have said no. That that we can defend the US without those bases, yes.

America or Germany?

America or Germany?
for all you people that said germany was better than america, your opinions were not valid! the reason is that the only people that answered my question( why is america better than german) were people who were in germany for a year or less, or were in the military in germany. i live here and have for 5 years, and germany has nothing compared to the states. why is that? this country is over 1000 years old! how long does it take to get ones shit in order? no wonder they lost both wars! dont get me wrong the culture is great and the food is ok, but no variety, and the jobs, in america a person without a college education can work in a factory making 12 to 15 dollars an hour, sure we only get 2 weeks vacation a year, but who needs 6 weeks when you dont make enough money to go anywhere? and whats funny is people here just say its normal and they dont question anything, and when you ask questions like mine they get insulted, why is that? look forward to the replies.

i love america, but i lived here all my life. Im sure you are right, but its hard to qualify an answer based on opinion. Thanks for being a patriot abroad, but please dont be an ugly american. Good luck.
3 :
I am an American and probably should not answer this question, as I have never left my country and never plan to; but have studied up on other countries, listen to news on them and know people stationed or lived in other countries. I worked a Hotel front desk for 6 years so meant alot of people from other countries, heard alot of them say bad stuff about America and always wondered if they hate us so much why come here. But generally some very nice people the French are ones never had any nice things to say about us..yet never answered my question if it was just New York or whole country. 9/11 when that was going done I was at front desk checking people out from all over the world, want to see mass confusion, people from France,Germany,England, Japan, and China all wanting to get to new york city and no plane flying(take 390 to thruway and be there in 5 to 6 hours)
4 :
I have been to Germany and the German people are so mean, sorry for the generalization but they treated us like crap and we had someone in our group that spoke German. The customer service is horrible and I would never eat in one of the resturants. I never see dogs in resturants in America.
5 :
EDIT : Just read your other posts.Sorry for your personal situation, but please don't blame us for not giving you a job without certificate.Blame your former employers for not giving you one. Be honest : If you were a german employer and get 20 applications, 19 from germans who speak native german, have 5 - 15 years of work experience in that field plus a matching job certificate and one foreigner speaking broken german, no job certificate and no continuous work life (having worked in different fields, instead of specializing), whom would you give the job? How are they supposed to check you didn't lie on your CV, btw.? Low-paying jobs are quite normal, I just finished university (M.A.) and get job offers that pay 4,50 € net. I won't discuss why that is so (takes far too much writing), but I'd like to remind you that that is true for almost every european country, pretty much every country in europe requires either apprenticeship or academ. degree for a job.The US is not the norm, but the exception. In long terms, you should either get some certificate or look into jobs that don't require one and pay well (truck driver, for ex.).Or work for the US military.Or think of moving back. P.S::I was on http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/ for some time and never encouraged people with less than a college degree to come to germany, that's a bad idea.Germany is a very bureaucratic country, without papers you're nothing here.If I had known of your situation before you came, I'd have advised you against coming here.

If I attend a university in Germany will I be able to get a job?

If I attend a university in Germany will I be able to get a job?
I'm an American citizen and I wish to go to a university in Germany after I graduate high school. My family is not rich, therefore I would need a way of making some money. I want to do this though because I would really like to live in Germany since I'm German American and have a great interest in Germany. Can foreign students get a regular job while in university? Also, to make extra money could I teach English to children? I guess you would call it freelance work, giving children lessons in English since I'm a native speaker. Is this possible in addition to a regular student job?

As American citizen you will need a student visa to study in Germany and a student visa allows you only to work part time. If you work as freelance be aware of the complicated tax system do not work without declaring that would be taxfraud a very serious criminal offense over here. But usually students can get enough jobs the only problem might result if you intend to finance your entire living on your own working only part time that is very hard to do if not impossible.
2 :
See here. page 3: http://www.daad.de/imperia/md/content/de/deutschland/downloads/das_medizinstudium_in_deutschland.pdf Yes, the document is in German - but you're going to have to read, write, speak and understand German in order to be able to study medicine here.
3 :
You can work on the many bases here in Germany.
4 :
If you're in an EU country as a non-EU national on a student visa, you will NOT be allowed to work. And you certainly won't be allowed to tutor children without some kind of police clearance - we ARE talking about Germany here. If you want to live in any EU country, it's very very difficult without EU nationality, and it's pretty much impossible if you don't speak the local language. As I understand it, if you were to apply for German nationality, you would be required to give up your US nationality. If you haven't been to Germany, arrange for some kind of exchange programme there first to see if you actually like it. Spending 3 months there would sort that out for you, try the Wooffer programme.

Germany wont let Tom Cruise film is new movie in their country because of religious reasons...?

Germany wont let Tom Cruise film is new movie in their country because of religious reasons...?
They wont let him film his movie because he is a scientologist. Thats it. They dont like scientologists because they think its a fake religion for making money, so for that reason they wont let him do his thing. They still wont quit with the religious prosecution will they? What are your thoughts on this little episode? Is this yet another reason we can chalk up on why we should get rid of religion, or maybe just Germany? "doubt the validity of my claim"? The article is right on the home page of yahoo right now. THE MOVIE itself has nothing to do with scientology, its simply because Tom himself is a scientologist.

Good for Germany. Although I doubt the validity of your claim..... edit - nothing personal. You didn't provide a link and it just "reaks" of urban legend. Sorry.
2 :
If it was somewhere in the Middle East... the media would have accused them of as being the least tolerant people and thus religion on earth.
3 :
Oh Well!
4 :
Why on earth would this mean get rid of religion? While I personally think scientology is a joke, I certainly support the right of Tom Cruise to make a movie about his religius beliefs if he wants. Germany is clearly in the wrong. EDIT: I hope the people who say good for Germany have no religious affiliation, otherwise how on earth could you support the banning of one religion, yet expect yours to be accepted? The idea smacks of hypocrisy.
5 :
I agree with Giovanni....good for Germany....I don't want that freak in America either.....
6 :
On it's face it seems that Germany is being quite draconian with these measures... However - I cannot really blame... ...for $cientology has a lot of,... ummm, --- 'issues': Check out this link: http://www.xenu.net/roland-intro.html ...and if this video doesn't convince you that there is something horribly amiss with $cientology,... ...then nothing will: http://theunfunnytruth.ytmnd.com/
7 :
Yeah I read the article. All it said was they will not have the film shot at German Military bases not the whole country.
8 :
Scientology is a pseudo-religion created by Lafayette Hubbard to make money. It calls itself a "Church" to take advantage of favourable tax concessions. Germany banned scientology when it first appeared as it was victimising and ripping off gullible people who could not afford it. When it called itself a church, it made no difference. As scientology is not a religion, banning it is not religious persecution. Tom Cruise is able to visit Germany but he cannot proselytise on behalf of his cult. If more countries followed Germany's example, this insidious money-grubbing organisation might disappear. One can only hope.
9 :
Real religion doesn't force one to pay money to advance in it's ranks. Not to mention...the 'religion' was created by a science fiction writer and features aliens...HELLO! And Manhattangirl, if it was the Middle East, the suicide bombers would have just blown him up, because that's just how they reason. Oh wait, I forgot..they're the most tolerant and peaceful religion.
10 :
it is their right to do this andi have no problem with it at all. germany has had a very troubling & disturbing past with religious problems. i believe they are trying to stear clear of that which would do more harm then good.
11 :
Down with Tom Cruise. Up with Deutschland! Deutschland uber-allas! Deutschland uber-allas!
12 :
Germany, unlike the USA, does not have freedom of religion. Consider the background of the faith. It was started by a science fiction and fantasy writer. (fact) His Dianetics first appeared in a science fiction magazine because he could not get mainstream publishers or medical publishers to print his writings. (fact.) Isaac Asimov, probably the best of all science fiction writers and a scientist with many factual publications to his name said dianetics was unscientific. (fact) One story is that he started it to win a bet. (unproven) Another is he said working for pennies a word was silly and if you really wanted to make money, start a religion. (unproven) Claims that Hubbard made: That he was a much decorated war hero. (false) That he commanded a corvette squadron. (false) That he was awarded the Purple Heart, a gallantry decoration for those wounded in action. (false) That he was crippled and blinded in the war and cured himself with Dianetic technique. (false--He was not crippled and was not blinded therefore there was nothing to cure.) That he was sent by U.S. Naval Intelligence to break up a black magic ring in California. (false--He was himself a member of that occult group and practiced ritual sexual magic in it.) That he was a graduate of George Washington University and an atomic physicist. (False-- he completed only one year of college and failed the one course on nuclear physics in which he enrolled.) "There is no dispute about any of this. The evidence is unchallenged." Justice Latey, High Court of London L. Ron Hubbard was convicted of fraud in France. (fact) And you wonder why Germany will not recognize Scientology as a religion?
13 :
I think Germany's history of religious persecution aAnd human rights violations speaks for itself. They are still at it in the present, obviously. The man is just trying to make a movie.
14 :
The US State Department's has repeatedly reported on Germany for government and societal discrimination against minority religious groups and Scientology. http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2005/51554.htm http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/irf/2006/71382.htm On June 2000, the U.S. House of Representatives held hearings concerning Germany's discrimination against American Products based on religion. http://www.cesnur.org/testi/EUintolerance_03.htm Most notable was Germany's boycott of Windows 2000 because a defrag program used by Windows was developed by an American company whose CEO is a Scientologist. http://www.cnn.com/US/9701/30/scientologists/index.html On Nov 2000, a German official was arrested in Switzerland and given a 30 day suspended jail sentence for spying on Scientology. The German government apologized to Switzerland for the incident. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2000/11/03/ms_helps_you_hack_scientology/ Wasn't Germany responsable for the holocoust?
15 :
It's not religious persecution. Germany is perfectly right. They won't allow Tom Cruise to film at their military bases. One of the many reasons Germany refuses to recognize Scientology as a legitimate religion: On July 8, 1977, the FBI raided Church of Scientology properties in L.A and Washington D.C. alleging that Scientology officials conspired to steal documents belonging to the Federal Government and conspired to obstruct justice by covering up these crimes during a grand jury investigation. About 90,000 pages of stolen government documents, burglary tools and eavesdropping equipment were seized in the raid. Scientologists attempted to portray themselves as a persecuted religion. The documents seized in this raid exposed an incredible array of cloak and dagger operations undertaken by Scientology’s Guardian’s Office, including bugging the Justice Department, stealing documents from the IRS, setting up church enemies on bomb threat charges, and attempting to destroy the reputation of the mayor of Clearwater, Florida. Eleven high ranking Scientologists, including L. Ron Hubbard’s wife Mary Sue, were sentenced to federal prison for their part in these actions. L. Ron Hubbard himself was in hiding but was listed as an unindicted co-conspirator.
16 :
I say good for the Germans. They do not see scientology as a religion, so therefore, how could it be religious persecution? They view it as a cult, which it is.

taxes for an online business not selling physical products?

taxes for an online business not selling physical products?
i want to start a website that acts as a middle man..where people pay to use my site to list their property, and others can search the site and browse through these properties. so the only money made by me would be through people purchasing a membership to my site. because this is not a brick and mortar company, and im not selling any physical products or shipping anything, how do taxes work for me? does a sales tax still exist? i was reading through sba.gov but some things are still unclear. also, im living in germany at the moment...i plan on moving back to the states next year but i want to start this company before that. but legally im only allowed to make money in germany as an english teacher. but having an online company...it's not technically making money in germany right? i'm completely clueless about this and im doing lots of reading but any help is much appreciated...im expecting to have to talk to a lawyer about technical stuff very soon too... anyways thanks!

Check on German law - if you're living in Germany, and making money with your online site, it's very likely considered making money in Germany so you wouldn't be allowed to. As far as sales tax goes, check with the state dept of revenue in the state you'll be moving to, and ask if it's taxable. You're providing a service, so it might be depending on the state. Good luck.
2 :
Since you are living in Germany and the entire business is operated in Germany. My guess is it's a German business. If you were from Germany but living in the US and doing this from the US, the US would consider it a US based company. Sales tax is operated by each State. The states each have their own rules; I'm not familiar with one that charges sales tax on services. However, I don't think there is a need for your business. I can go on many different websites and see the MLS listings for free. All houses listed with a realtor will have an MLS number and many privates one too if they are going through the do it yourself home selling groups. For office/industrial properties there are less online sources but there is loopnet and that is a free for most of the information.
3 :
If you receive money for services or goods, you must pay tax on it.
4 :
Because you are not allowed to do anything that is "technically making money in Germany", your business will probably have to be somewhere in the U.S., at least officially. If your business is in a state with a sales tax on this type of service, then you have to charge sales tax. If your business is in a state without a sales tax on this type of service, then you do not have to charge sales tax. Then is no nationwide law on sales tax. Each state has its own rule. I do not understand why anyone would pay you a membership fee for your site when they can get this same service for free on craigslist. You should probably address that problem with your business model before you spend a lot of time on the tax implications.

No US family court judge will remove a 9 month old AMERICAN baby from an good American mother and give the baby to the father and his overseas GF in GERMANY. It would be sending the baby beyond THEIR jurisdiction and they are not gonna do that with an American Baby. Anyone would be depressed if their husband DUMPED them and their baby for some foreign woman, Cupcake....don;t try to pretend it's anything more than that. The fact you want to take the baby away from it's mother and 'give' it to your German GF is disgusting. Your making more money means you can well afford child support and perhaps short term maintenance. Good. ...and in a few years you will leave the German woman and try to take any children she may have with you away from her and out of Germany...I betcha!
