2 Weddings or flying? My Parents live in Germany and my fiances family in the USA. What makes more sense?
I really want my family with me. everybody does. But my parents and Parents-in-law do not have a lot of money. Makes it sense to "ship" one family? Or makes it sense to bring my parents over here for one wedding and his parents over to Germany for the other one..... Its so hard!!!

One wedding and fly the family in.

I would have two ceremonies, but before planning I would talk to members of both families to make sure they understand why you're doing it. If you live in the states have an official mairrage here then fly over there and have a simple ceremony. That way everyone gets to be a part of your wonderful day (or days I guess).
3 :
Try to figure out which place host the wedding will be cheaper including air tickets and hotel fees. Don't invite too many guests and have informal or causal wedding will helps too.
4 :
Wow. Very tough decision. I was here once and it broke us up. I wanted everyone here in the US, he wanted everyone near his home in Europe. Try picking a place in-between. Maybe the Caribbean or Ibiza? Make it a vacation for both families, tell them neither is to pay for anything, but the vacation to be with you and your mate on that special day. Ich wunche dir veile Gluck!
5 :
One wedding ceremony, 2 receptions. I had friends that did this, excpet their family was in Oregon and Chicago, not so drastic as yours. This way you don't have to worry about the formality of the ceremony and can just celebrate with family and friends! Or I would suggest just do 2 weddings. They probably can't be as glamorous as if you were just having one, but it will mean so much to the family. Besides, i would love to relive my wedding day again, here's your chance!
6 :
You only have a wedding day once in a lifetime if you do it right the first time. 2 weddings? How do you decide where the first will be? How do you capture that magic all over again for a second? Do the right thing and bring your parents here. Get on a registry from a store that is in the USA and Germany so your parents friends and/family from Germany can join in on the gift giving. Best wishes for a long and happy marriage.
7 :
1 small wedding. 1 video recorder. 2 big receptions with a big screen looping the ceremony.
8 :
We had the same issue and ended up doing two very small weddings; the second one was just a reception. We both had too many people to fly. I would say it depends on -How much can you afford -How many people would need to fly -Can you accommodate all these people if they fly -Will anyone be offended if you do 2 weddings? You could also try to make a second wedding the beginning of your honeymoon... Lots to consider!
9 :
i would say two weddings. the family can put you up in the country you don't live in. also both should help cover wedding expenses. some of what they saved on hotel rooms plane tickets and food should be put towards your wedding
10 :
I have a friend in the military who married a Japanese woman. They got married in Japan with a traditional Japanese ceremony and took tons of photos. For their one year anniversary, they came back here to the states. They had a small "traditional" american wedding as a renewal of vows for family and friends to attend. At the reception (picnic at his parents house) they laid out the photo album of the wedding in Japan. I took a pile of pictures of the renewal of vows ceremony and made a photo album full of pictures (and put them all on cd also). They took that album home to Japan for her family to see what happened here. I hope this helps. I just thought of a second option...go on a cruise or somewhere romantic and get married, just the two of you and then hold the two receptions like people have already suggested.

Fly them both in.

Can anyone think of a single war that DID NOT the revolve around money?

Can anyone think of a single war that DID NOT the revolve around money?
This is in the RELIGION section because this was part of my response to the question... 'Is religion slowly killing us?" http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080803234305AA0RQz0&r=w#F7h5DWrkFFjS1VJUqF6J "if it wasn't in the name of god, it would have been in the name of money.greed, gold, whatever else you want to call it." Everything is about money! They use God and ideaologies as bait for those who have little money. How could they possibly convince the poor... "Go fight for me so that I can make more money." No instead, the rich wrap things up in ideaology, fight to save us. fight for freedom. for God and country... Support the troops! But even when they are defending us, it is because someone else wants OUR money. No, ALMOST EVERY WAR IN ALL OF HISTORY was about MONEY. Think about it a second and if you can come up with even ONE that wasn't feel free to message me! WWII- Germans had to pay reparations for WWI. The German mark was tanking. Hitler didn't like that so he started to expand Germany to bring back it's wealth and pride. American Revolution- No taxation without representation. Civil War- Slaves were PROPERTY. The War on Drugs- the dealers cartels or whoever make money off of their product because there are people willing to buy it. At the same time it costs the government billions because of rehab programs, law enforcement, social services for family members. The Cold War- two different economic systems battling for world power. Don't be too quick to answer "Power" or "Land"... Without money, one's power is GREATLY diminished, even non-existent. (Look how the poor are treated!) Land- What is land good for? NATURAL RESOURCES. Which helps society make MONEY. The Vietnamese may not have gotten richer, BUT the Vietnam War was apart of the Cold War. Russia and the USA used countries like Vietnam as pawns on the map. Because of the Crusades, trad with the Mid East and Asia increased greatly. Side effect of original intent, both can be argued. The Trojan War was a part of Greek MYTHOLOGY not History. (You can Google it up if you'd like.) David v. Goliath was about LAND. And if the Israelites had failed, they would have been forced into slavery. WWI- Economic Imperialism The 30years war- claimed as a religious war, but was actually a rivalry between France and the House of Hapsburg for political power. War of the Roses- House of Lancaster and York. Power Struggle. Land expansion was also involved. War of the Roses Yes. But why were the British and Scottish in Ireland? There had to be something they wanted (resources). The motivation for the Irish themselves was self defense. But for the Brits/Scots who were invading, it was money/resources... My examples were OVER simplified for efficency and readability. Thank you ALL for you input!

I don't think the Vietnamese got richer. *The Vietnam "Police Action" was about Communism not money as was the cold war.
2 :
You could try the crusades. All they wanted was to kill Muslims, burn mosques, and take Jerusalem. Sure the soldiers looted and pillaged, but that wasn't the actual intention of the war, that was just soldiers being greedy. Your wars revolve around America. Try different eras and nations, you'll find some good wars. Edit: Ah, but the intention of the Crusades was not its side effect. Weak argument. Trade occured on the part of opportunists and merchants, not generals and kings.
3 :
the civil war was partially about slavery but slaves were not money....i think that war was more about the confederates trying to keep the black man down. Technically, you could make every single action that has ever happened about money.
4 :
The revolutionary war didn't solely revolve around "no taxation without representation"
5 :
i consider the civil war to be more about freedom and equality rather than property. sure, one side wanted to keep slavery, but the war itself was fought over freedom and liberty. -Christian
6 :
star wars- a young boy who has sex with his sister works out his daddy issues. cartoon wars- cartman wanted to have family guy taken off the air because he thought it was stupid. Kyle liked family guy so he tried to stop him, neither had a financial interest so no money involved.
7 :
War on Terror *snickers*
8 :
The Trojan War. It was fought over Helen of Troy.
9 :
If you want to understand wars, then ask what resources were being fought over. Money is a medium of exchange, it is the resources that are the cause of war. In the Civil War the resources that really caused the problem where the Western territories and who was going to control them. Slave states wanted to be able to exploit the resources with the slave property while capitalist interest with their own labor or with paid labor. Even the crusades were about control of land.
10 :
Money may be a contributor, but I think the worst violence/wars are/were created because of religious intolerance!
11 :
There were wars before there was money. Case closed.
12 :
if you are refering to all the US wars then you are correct accept the war in iraq which is supposed to bring peace but is destrroying you have over looked the fact that there has been thousandths of wars like the trojan war where they fought over a woman
13 :
The war when Israel fought the Philistines. This was the war with David and Goliath. It wasn't about money
14 :
Wasn't there a war, albeit a small one, that erupted between a bunch of soccer fans somewhere in Europe?
15 :
WW I Thirty year's war War of the Roses
16 :
I think you've simplified it too much with "money". My personal belief is that wars are fought over resources (many times because a lack of them) and that religion helps people pick sides.
17 :
I think it is a fair statement to say that many wars have economic bases. But there are notable exceptions, for instance the 1967 War (The Six Day War) was about occupation of Gaza and (from the Israeli POV) border security. Yes it was land, but not particularly valuable land from a resources perspective. The War on Drugs is not about monetary gain, and is not really a war. More of an oppression. The Civil War was not about slavery, but about States rights vs Federal Gov't's rights. It had vast economic EFFECTS, but was not prosecuted from economic reasons. Just a few thoughts. I still agree with your basic thesis that many wars have economics as their root causes.
18 :
You asked the question in the right forum: 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
19 :
War is the shooting stage of an economic struggle.
20 :
the civil war in ireland and the civil war in northern ireland were caused by religious & political issues, regarding the invasion of england and plantation of scottish and english settlers on irish soil.

Get a job? Ask people who love you for money? You could make specialty candles and sell them. You could have two models. One would feature a picture of Obama looking all angelic and everything. The other would have a picture of Obama looking like the devil. Certainly most people would want to buy one or the other, but maybe not both. You could present it as a way to vote in an opinion poll about our president. Soon, you'll be sponsoring other people for this trip, after all, if you have more money, you should 'share the wealth.'

How can a long distance relationship between Germany and Texas work?

How can a long distance relationship between Germany and Texas work?
I live in Texas, and my girlfriend lives in Germany. We have never actually met in person; but do the instant messenger, video calls, webcam, telephone, and love letters quite frequently. Our problem is that while Im 18, she is still 17 and unable to come see me here for a few months. I am trying very hard to save up all of my money to go see her this summer, but its simply too much for me. i have done everything from work 2 job to opeing an ebay store to raise money. Another problem is our parents; who are understandably skeptical and dont want either of us to go see eachother. However we are both very devoted and want this to work out very badly. She will most likely move here after her 1 more year of prep school. My question is this- does anyone know a way to make money fast? has anyone ever been in this type of situation (and if so how did it work out/ how did you deal with it)? and does anyone know a reasonable way to deal with the parents involved? any advice is appriciated

maybe its a sign
4 :
offer to mow neigbours lawns. offer to take out their rubbish bins walk their dogs wash their cars etc ask for a SMALL amount of money for each thing. say $1-2.
5 :
Let her grow up a bit, then you can plan, for time being use family computer
6 :
When we were children, my brother had a few homes he would go to every week to mow their lawn. We would go door-to-door with a rake in the autumn or a shovel in the winter, and then get paid to rake leaves / shovel snow. If someone said "No thank you", we would get them to reconsider by reminding them of the labour involved, how heavy the snow is, and how sore they would be for many days afterward, and that if they paid us to do the work, they would have more time for themselves. :) We also used to go collecting beer bottles & wine bottles from the places where the teenagers would go to party (in the park, in the ravine, under the bridge at the creek, etc), then take them back to the store to collect the deposit money. We would buy ice skates from garage sales in the summer, and spend the autumn putting shoe polish on them. Then in the winter, we would sell the nice-looking skates to the skate-exchange and get 5 to 10 times what we paid. Maybe you & your sister can clean homes together? Walk dogs? Feed fish or cats when people are away on vacation? You live on a base... maybe someone would pay you to polish their boots / buckles, or perhaps iron their uniform? Or maybe lonely senior citizens would pay a few dollars to keep them company, playing checkers & card games with them? Or maybe they'd like their mail read to them if their eyes are going bad? Maybe you could take in some laundry??? Think about what you *LIKE* to do, and then find a way to get paid for it :)

Hmmm I think for both of you a Refurbished laptop will be simply great and will fit in As these refurbished laptops comes with great and awesome features and condition too

If a family deposited money in New York banks in the 1940's how can they recover the money.?
To make a long story short my family lived in germany before ww2 and my great grand father depositted money in banks in New York and Switzerland. He was killed by the germans for not cooperating with the Nazi's. and when my great grand mother and garnd father got to the US after the war the bank refused to release the money because she was not on the account and most of the document were destroyed during the war.

Find the website for the state of New York and find the section for unclaimed goods or unclaimed money. Do a search for your great grandfather's last name and see what comes up. If there is money listed, contact the state about how to claim it.
2 :
Well, the bank no longer has the money. Take whatever documentation you have to the New York State unclaimed funds department and see if they have any records of it and any way they can help you.

why Islam allow us for polygamy it make sense read more.......................................?

why Islam allow us for polygamy it make sense read more.......................................?
first of all Islam telling us to marry with just one women iff incase we cannot do equally justice with them iff we can do then we are allowed it has a strong reason you will find women population as compare to men is much larger why becouse infant death record show us that female,s have more resistence then male child that,s why there survival chance,s are more other male death ratio is higher then female,s becouse man work hard and risk his life to make money in only america there are 7.8 million female,s in russia 9 million in uk 4 million in germany 5 million in thailand and many country,s generally women,s are more then male suppose iff every man have found one wife for him but still million,s of female,s left alone what are there option,s to find shelter or security ? would they prefare to be second wife of allready married man when she did this she will get same right,s same honor as first wife according to Islam.... or else continued or else want to become public property becouse how long she can stop herself to become wife and mom this is nature of every women to get safe place for herself as a wife and a mother as you seen there are evil,s around us hunting for women raping them using them as mistresses prostitutes........ women is secure in Islam she have equal right,s as compare to male but not same some point,s she have some point man have becouse they are different then each other physichally mentally immotionally no Doubt Islam is the best way of life not just a religion i hope you can understand May GOD give us true path for life n hereafter Amen There is no verses in the bible which stop,s to getting married with only one wife where is it it mean,s you can have many wive,s what the hell you have christian,s your faith is stupidity & fanaticism what is lust ???? to give honor and need,s to your wife or having adultery like animal with plenty of women,s as happening in america and western country,s it is comon to have mistesses beside,s life partner

And why are you preaching at us? The aim of this site is to have questions answered, not to answer them yourself by preaching at us.
2 :
alone what are there option,s to find shelter or security ? This is what I have the most trouble with Islam. Alone they should be allowed to find their own shelter or security. They should be given the same chances as men to achieve what they want in their life. They should not have to rely on a man to have shelter or security. And if Islamic societies created that for them, then there would be NO reason for polygamy. And if Islamic societies created that for them, there would be much less injustice and awful things done to women in this world. (And this not a criticism I have for Islam only. It's for most religions, and many, many cultures.)
3 :
Say what you??
4 :
So your saying that in a culture where women cannot work, or otherwise support themselves, polygamy is a better option than letting them starve or live in destitution, or remain as victims of horrific crimes. I hope some day your culture will allow for women to be able to honorably, and safely support themselves if they need to, but I do appreciate your perspective on this. So many people think you do it just because you're lustful, I'm glad to see that's not the case.

Thank you for that. I think the population of the US is 267M, and there are close, alot more females, probably more like 150mil. Thank you for explaining your culture. My father practices Islam so I have a great respect for you. Be proud of who you are, I am. If I could explain my perspective: Our political system calls for a seperatoin of religion and government. I just hope you can tolerate us. The way I look at it, I respect your beliefs and beleive you should be free to do whatever you want, as long as you think the same thing about us. If we both do that, we can work together towards something posative. I myself have a jaded outlook on relationships. IT works for some poeple, and others it doesn't. The need to have a single partner may have come from the medical need to stop the spread of desease. In the animal kindom rarely do males stick with one female. There is a tribe in South America where the females have multiple husbands. To each thier own. Let it be.

What should I take into consideration when traveling to Germany?

What should I take into consideration when traveling to Germany?
I'm from USA. I can speak a good amount of german. I'm going in the summer around July or August (next year)But what I'm wondering is.. What should I pack? How much money should I bring? What are some good places to go to? (i am mainly going up north, but might go down south too.) What about their phone/internet services? Whens the raining season? How far apart is their time zone(I'm in PA)? Any good scenic places/ family places? ( 2 adults 2 teenagers going) Any bad places? Is it easy to make friends with native germans? Any good tourist websites? Anything else i forgot? Thank you so much!

3 :
i think they are 6 hours different than your time zone. i know france is 6. a good way to figuare out what to pack is to look on weatherunderground to see what the temperature is going to be when you will be there. because when i went to france i didn't want to pack anything until a day or 2 before because i know the weather can change.
4 :
check out cologne, berlin, munich, liepzig, dresden, for great city life garmisch- partenkirchen and bavaria for beautiful mountains train service is really reliable, food is excellent,Germany is on CET which will be 6hrs ahead of EST. I have found the German people to be very friendly and willing to help especially if you make an effort with the language. Try www.tripadvisor.com Enjoy the trip
5 :
meh. Deutschland and most of the neighboring countries reach out very much for typical American tourists, so dont worry about any of the typical travel mishaps to occur. as far as money goes, take alot if you plan to live in a hotel, take the U bahns to eat at fancy places. My advice rough it out and use the extra money to see as much as the country as possible. Viel Spass.
6 :
What should I pack? July and august are usually vey warm, so pack tshirts and shorts, maybe some pullovers and jeans for colder/rainy days, and don't forget sunglasses. How much money should I bring? As much as you feel convenient with, you can withdraw money anytime you need it with the right card. What are some good places to go to? (i am mainly going up north, but might go down south too.) Well, the big cities like Berlin and Hamburg are never wrong otherwise it depends on your own taste whether you like to see historical things or something else. What about their phone/internet services? Most hotels have internet portals, and there is also a lot of W-Lan hotspots almost anywhere where there are many people, as at railway stations and McDonald's Whens the raining season? Whenever mother nature feels like LOL, you can be lucky and go weeks without a single drop, you can not be lucky and have a 2nd biblical flood, there's hardly a rule to follow. How far apart is their time zone(I'm in PA)? 9 hours back, if I'm not mistaken, anyone might correct me. Any good scenic places/ family places? ( 2 adults 2 teenagers going) Theme parks? LOL Any bad places? None I could think of, though you MIGHT have some differences communicating with Bavarians, some have such a strong dialect even I cannot understand them LOL Is it easy to make friends with native germans? When they speak english, no problem, but not many elder people can, but basically, as logn as you're friendly, you should be fine. Any good tourist websites? None I could spontaneously think of, I never really tour my own country :-) Anything else i forgot? Please only enjoy limited amounts of beer...or any other alcohol for that matter ;-)

Hi, I travelled to Germany from Australia last year and had a fantastic time. If you can already speak a good amount of German then you will have absolutely no problem at all concerning communication. July and August are in summer, so expect a lot of tourists! You will have mild to warm to hot days, but be prepared for rain and cooler days/nights. I would suggest sunglasses, sunscreen, hat and a warm jacket (if you get desperate you can buy an umbrella or anything else etc while there). The amount of money you bring depends on exactly what you will be doing. Take some euros (approx. 25-50/day or more) for day to day expenses (entrance fees, drinks and snacks, taxi fares etc and use VISA (or other) for hotels, restaurants and the unexpected. Dont forget that Supermarkets have much cheaper prices for cold drinks and snacks! Up North you have Hamburg, Lubeck etc. which are nice. I particularly like the more southern and central areas (Bavaria) etc. Germany has many beautiful places to visit, it all depends on your interests! It has a very interesting history with medieval, baroque and rococo architecture, and if you like castles and fortresses, palaces, churches, old houses and museums, then you will not be disappointed. Some of my favourites are Würzburg, Bamberg, Passau, the 12th century walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber etc etc. The choices are endless. I would highly recommend the "Lonely Planet book of Germany" for fantastic detailed information (including maps, prices of train fares, entrance fees, hotel costs, restaurant prices, etc) and there are endless websites available. Most cities have their own webpage. Just do a Google search. Most towns and cities have internet cafes, so no problem there. Dont forget to look for peoples travel photographs on places such as webshots.com, theworldisround.com.......etc. The train transport system is great! The beer is good, the food a little different! most locals are friendly, the scenery is lovely ....Have fun!!!

Hey! I think you have enough good tips now. But don't be afraid, that the Germans will not understand you. Nearly everybody speaks English here, some good and some bad. And we are not like the people in France who do just speak French even if they understand you or not. http://www.berlin.de/english/index.html maybe you can find some information on this page. Have fun!!

I'm trying to find cheap tickets to Germany. I dont wnat to spend a lot of money. Please help me!!?
I've tried all the major sites.....orbitz, expedia, etc. They have some flights that are like $500-$600 but then they add taxes and fees and makes it over $1,000. Any ideas?? I will be leaving from Kansas City, KS on April 25 and be returning on May 10

I got tickets to Poland for really cheap. It was less than 700 with all of the taxes included. But it would help us to answer if you gave us the time frame that you wanted to go for, so that we could look up different sites and help you :) EDIT: www.cheaptickets.com I wasn't sure which airport in Germany you wanted to fly into, but I chose Berlin, because that is where I would fly into. I found roundtrip tickets from Kansas City to Berlin on those dates for $786.00 including all of the taxes and fees. That is flying Northwest Airlines, however, there are 2 stops involved, but that is the cheapest that I found for them. I hope this helped. :) EDIT AGAIN (haha): www.atiflights.com is where I bought my tickets to Poland. Considering there are a lot of airports in Germany, if you try these 2 websites, I'm sure you can find the best price for the correct airport that you're looking for.

Could Socialists Make a Socialist/Communist State Work Successfully?

Could Socialists Make a Socialist/Communist State Work Successfully?
Let's say 80,000,000 people (the approximate population of Germany) all believe in Socialism. These people want to live under a Socialist system and make it work. So they are willing to be taxed at whatever level to make it work. They are willing to accept that eradicating poverty will be very expensive. National healthcare will cost a lot of money. A top level education system won't be cheap either. Having a nice home for each person to live in is far from free too. Would this nation prosper or would it fail?

That would only be the first generation. Thier kids may think differently over time
2 :
socialism is a failed ideology
3 :
Sure... Look at the former USSR...
4 :
look at history, socialism works until you run out of other people's money, look at Greece and other EU countries, so not likely.
5 :
Socialism does NOT work at all. Haven't you people been paying attention to Europe??
6 :
The only real successful Socialist country is Norway , they have strict immigration policies , their population is primarily White European [almost 95%] and they have a strong work ethic .
7 :
that would only work if ppl gave up the idea of money.....if u work, u get food and house and education for your children. simple as that. but if u dont work then u get kicked out of this small community (something like this would only work at a city level).....but if u want nicer house and better education for children, then u work harder and do better in school. that way its also alittle like capitilism
8 :
It all depends on who they put in charge. But your question is a little confusing. Are you referring to a Socialist or Communist state? They aren't the same thing. Socialism is... well, socialism. Communism is what cons call Socialism.
9 :
if the people were equally committed generation after generation, it would succeed....but reality has shown us that that type of commitment is difficult to maintain. look at the U.S. and the nations of Europe, for example...when a generation's focus is to leave more to the next generation than they themselves had, you see large leaps of progress and the sacrifice necessary to, among other things, win a World War.. ...all it takes is one generation to slightly change that ethic into WANTING more than their elders had and the dynamic can quickly fall apart .... Next, you have a generation EXPECTING to have more...with that expectation or sense of entitlement, however, you rarely see the will to earn something that will last. ....
10 :
Where would the money come from to pay for all this? You need private businesses to create the jobs that pay salaries that can be taxed to pay for these expensive entitlements, but individuals won't invest in a business where they can't make a profit and would lose money because of high taxes. Socialism doesn't make sense. It has never and will never work.
11 :
If they are willing to be taxed to death and live on less than USD 1 per day - Sure; Socialist ideology has been advocating Hunger for decades...just look at their Cuban and Venezuelan Paradise.

Why are Americans generally so irresponsible when it comes to avoiding debt and saving money?

Why are Americans generally so irresponsible when it comes to avoiding debt and saving money?
There is really no excuse - Americans make more in salary (on average) than most other countries, except for a few countries in Europe. That means that the average American has plenty of opportunities to save money for retirement and for emergencies. And yet - the average American worker has less than $10,000 in total retirement savings! The average American household has around $9,000 in credit card debts. Many Americans save so little money that they can't even pay for their own healthcare coverage if they lose their jobs. What the heck is up with this? I remember being in Germany, and even though people make less money on average than Americans, they saved a lot more, and they could afford nice stuff like yearly beach vacations to Thailand, simply by managing their money carefully. Why haven't Americans done the same? "Who the hell are you?" I'm an American born and raised in Texas, you moron.

Americans like to spend and live for the moment. They run up high credit card bills and a lot of times are not financially responsible. This is not the case for all Americans but enough to give us a black eye.
2 :
Americans have been getting paid the same or less over the past 40 years even as things become more expensive and they become more productive. They need to take out personal debt to maintain the same standard of living they once could afford. http://www.alternet.org/economy/144388/america_without_a_middle_class_--_it%27s_not_far_away_as_you_might_think In the past one man could provide for his whole family doing blue collar work. Now with both parents working, with the burden of college debt and many years not getting paid while they were in college because there are fewer blue collar jobs, they are struggling to do the same.
3 :
Who the hell are you? Who told you it was any of your business what we do. This a FREE country. If we can afford it we can have it. If you and the other dummies would adopt the same ideals you can have all this stuff to. Get it? 6 thumbs down from the stupid and those that feel guilty as a result of their achievements. History proves my point.
4 :
Instant gratification. They want it now and will borrow to buy it. They are not willing to save for it. Many are just following the governments lead.
5 :
Because our leaders set a terrible example. If our own government can't live within its means, why does it expect us to?
6 :
Credit cards are the devil.. there is so much buy now, save now, etc.. its easy to do. Then put high interest rates on top of that and you miss one payment it completely snowballs and that's how they keep you in debt and money in their pockets.
7 :
Americans are caught up in the spending and plastic culture. I do not fall in this category because I came from a family that was frugal. I save about 25 of my take home income every month and I pay for my purchases in cash. I do not live extravagantly by any means but I was taught to only buy things that I need and to try to pay cash for everything. As a result, I have no car loan and no credit card debt and I bought a house that I could afford and put down 20%. My house payment is only 15 percent of my take home pay. Now, I do not have a cell phone with monthly bills. I have a pay as you go from tmobile and I buy 100 dollars worth of minutes every year and that is all I use. I try not to eat out too much and I watch what I buy. I took money out of my savings to purchase my car outright. I am not earning 6 figures either. The Jone's may appear to be doing better than I am but both Jone's will be working at MacDonalds in the 80's while I am island hopping. Hey poster below: This is not a democrat or a republican thing. Under the republicans people bought homes that they could not afford and attained more credit card debt in the history of the US. Under Clinton, banking rules were relaxed. There is no one political party to blame or uphold as a shining example.
8 :
Government encourages them. How are the stimulating the economy? By spending money wastefully. By Encouraging people to buy bigger houses with credits. By telling Credit Card Companies and Bank to loosen up. By bailing out failure.
9 :
Not me. Me and my wife are frugal and always have lived below our means. When we first married we had no cable, ate at home, and drove old debt free cars. Now we have a tidy sum and can afford pretty much anything we want and pay cash for it. The young generation is spoiled and want everything now, without saving for it.
10 :
Everyone's doin' it. Just like everyone's goin' to church. Maybe we can pray the debt away.
11 :
One answerer had it correct in saying that Americans like to live for the moment. They want to keep up with everyone else and everyone else wants to keep up with them. They`ll go buy a housefull of new furniture on the credit just because they`re tired of the color of the old set,and the old set is still in perfect conditon. On the other hand, some of us don`t expect this present economical society to last long anyway and we may save and do without what we want only to have the Government come along and get it somehow (by taxes, forced healthcare etc). Also it seems that most any time I have tried to save much, some emergency will present itself and it will take everything I have saved anyway,so we just figure it`s best to go ahead and enjoy life while we can.I am against reckless spending, but also against trying to save all the time.I think our money would be better spent helping those less fortunate than either spending wildly, or saving..either one.
12 :
Living in this capitalistic society, we are always bombarded with different ways to spend our money. Madison Avenue has a real grip on the populace and with everyone watching more television than ever, it's bound to have an effect. The need to keep up with "the Jones's" is a powerful drain on the wallet and with so many years of easy available credit, it was hard to turn it off. Very much like a drug. The ads are designed to make you believe that , yes... you too can live like a millionaire and have it all, when in reality, you should'nt have bought into the corporate lies. The latest banking and mortgage crisis speaks to this.
13 :
Progressive liberalism; Fannie and Freddie, Big Government, and entitlement mentality. Lawlessness, laziness, slothfulness....... Look what is happening in Greece. Socialism does NOT produce responsible citizens. Capitalism DOES. Note: I was recently in GErmany last summer and I was NOT at all impressed with the economy, $7.00 per gallon for gas (once the conversion of liters to gallons and euros to dollars) is not particularly appealing to me.

Lap dancing in night clubs in Germany as a job, what do you think?

Lap dancing in night clubs in Germany as a job, what do you think?
Since last year many people closed to me are telling me that i should go dancing in Germany in night clubs because i can do good money there..up to 10000euro on month...I know someone that is already working in Stuttgard and she told me that she did at her best 7000euro and at her bad months 2500euro.. The problem is that i don't imagine myself having a life like this..or having this kind of jobs in my past..I prefer to do something else to make money but by having a decent life and not one that i am ashamed of because people judge u by this kind of jobs and i don't want to ruin my future ,and maybe loose people i care about in future..i don't know maybe a husband or friends etc. What makes me mad also is that this advices comes from the girl that a thought to be my friend..she was telling me this like is the best thing i should do for money, like she would do this for money but in reality she never has the courage to do it herself and also my boyfriend which is my bf for 5 years now..he thinks modern but..i don't want this kind of advices from them.. I have open mind but What do u think i should do?The money i could earn there make me think like is an opportunity but i am more realistic,i don't want to ruin my future and my opportunities..i don't feel like is something i should do for money ...i don't know if u understand what i want to say..but i will come with replies to your answers... P.S-i am 25 years,i have finished a management university..i worked in jobs in bank..or as a manager..for short time but i see myself having a decent life..i would work on cruise ships as waiter or something else than doing dances..even if i earn less...and i see myself in this decent kind of jobs and life..i know is hard now to find a job...which currently i don't have this is why i think about opportunities I am also an european woman..so maybe the sites u gave won't help me that much, but i will check them.Thank you. And yes i know that once i begun this kind of job is hard to get out ..is one of the reasons i don't want to accept this kind of job dor my own life... I am also an european woman..so maybe the sites u gave won't help me that much, but i will check them.Thank you. And yes i know that once i begun this kind of job is hard to get out ..is one of the reasons i don't want to accept this kind of job dor my own life...

It's very hard to leave the dancer's life once you start. Keep that in mind.
2 :
Do not go for any job you are not comfortable with. You would hate yourself if you did do it. And what is more, you would keep hating yourself if you do it even for a short time and it works out that you hate it. If you think you will go back to your real profession, a period as dancer, or a period that is not there in your CV will hurt your chances at any job, the better the job, the more it would hurt. If your boyfriend wants you to do strip dancing for money, kick him out. Or have him go strip dancing for money first and for a few years. I would not be surpriced if he would say that he does not mind you being a nude or strip dancer, but would let you down soon after you started doing it. And if that old friend has no better advice, find a better friend. Those sites are spam, ignore them and certainly do not send them personal information. As it is spam it is likely to be deleted some time soon. If you want to use sites like the ones that where spammed here, search on jobs and your country, in the local language by preference.

What do others think about blacks wanting money for slavery?

What do others think about blacks wanting money for slavery?
It appears lawmakers are willing to pass a bill apologizing for slavery, but the black leaders want money. They are fighting hard against a disclaimer which simply states descendants of slaves can't sue or collect money from the federal government. Even Obama is against this, and believes making inner city schools better should be enough. Do people really believe blacks should get money for something that happened to their great great grandfathers? Can I sue Germany for shooting my grandfather during WW2? Can Jews sue for the holocaust? Wars and the Holocaust were a lot worse than slavery.

Can I get the money to go to Germany for a year?

Can I get the money to go to Germany for a year?
I was recently rejected from the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange program. I don't have any idea why, but the past is the past. Right now AFS is offering me partial aid so I would only have to pay 6,000 dollars for a year abroad. The problem is that I'm a graduating senior and have already been accepted into college and have about 10 days left to sign the enrollment slip and make a deposit. Is there any sure-fire way I could earn 6,000 over the summer (scholarships, fundraising ideas, etc)? because if I went I would need to save the little money I do have for my first year of college.

Hey Sean It seems like you have some opportunities coming your way if you hussle. Let me recommend an item that has worked for other people in your sitaution. Look into scratch cards from professional fundraising companies. They come in different varieties, it just depends on what you can get excited about. They're an easy sell because people want to save money on items they're going to buy anyway. For the price of a couple dollar donation to you they get a coupon. Each card can raise over $100 so the money will come in if you put in the effort. If you can get family and friends to help you that $6,000 is doable! In the meantime do things like put on a BBQ at a local mall in the summer, dog walking etc. More fundraising ideas at the links I've found. Good luck with whatever you choose.

What is the point in high gas prices when the earth has enough crued oil to last for another 200 years?

What is the point in high gas prices when the earth has enough crued oil to last for another 200 years?
Why does the government tell us that there is a gas shortage when there is actually plenty to go around. Why must the prices be $8.00 in England and $10.00 in Germany. All the government is doing is using the process of supply and demand. If everyone in the U.S.A would stop buying gas for a day or two or for a week the prices would come down because they are trying to make money and if we stop buying gas they stop making money.

That's true... besides, if you use less gas, you will helping the environment as well... You also won't be funding any terrorists or wars by riding your bike... It's a win/win situation to avoid using a lot of gas... And don't give in when they drop the price to a few cents either... make them beg you to take it for free...
5 :
First, that is not true. We don't know how much crude is available to an accurate degree. Second, the high price of gas will be required to justify the acquisition of much of the remaining oil, because it will cost more in equipment, time, and labor to recover it.

What is the best career path for me? Something where I make a lot of money, and help people around the globe?

What is the best career path for me? Something where I make a lot of money, and help people around the globe?
I just recently graduated High School and I'm thinking about what I should get my B.A in. I am a very International person, I'm Persian/Iranien who was born and raised in Germany. I speak 5 languages Farsi, German, English, French and Spanish, but my overall goal is to be Fluent in 7 languages! (possibly Arabic and Russian) ... i know sounds crazy but I can be a pretty valuable person :D. I moved to L.A. when I was 13 and finished Middle School and High School here. I'm a very friendly, honest , blunt, and caring person and therefore wanted to be some sort of an International Advocate, who helps a lot of people in desperate need around the globe (help fight against child prostitution in India; Help fight for Women Rights in countries like Iran and other middle eastern countries; perhaps work for the United Nations to push them to ensure peace around the world; etc.) After that I heard that the United Nations doesnt do anything and that the pay is low . I could become an Interpreter for private companies... but that doesnt help people around the world. I think it's very unfair that us Americans get to live this Luxurious Lifestyle while other countries are in desperate Help... but we do donate a lot of money though. So yah, if anyone has an idea, then feel free to answer :)

Nothing wrong with the UN or (if you are US citizen) the State Department especially when you are unsure what you really want. Yes, they won't play a lot for a rookie and have definite disadvantages but you will be able to travel, meet very important people (some of them good some bad), and learn a lot. That may help you find out what you really want to do with your life including workable ideals about how to make a lot of money and help people at the same time.

How much would it cost to travel around Europe?
I am planning on backpacking around Europe for half a year after year twelve. I would be visiting England, Scotland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece and Germany but I have family and friends to stay with in France, Scotland, England and Germany. So If anyone has any recommendations about I should stay or could tell me about how much it would cost that would be great. I know it will be expensive as well so if you know any ways to reduce costs or make money that would be amazing. Thank you

Hey Hun To figure out how much money you will need, you must first consider where it is you are traveling to. Much of the world is quite inexpensive, but there are places that will drain your wallet faster than others. London, anywhere in Scandinavia, and Japan are some of the most expensive places to travel in. On the flip side, you can live and travel in parts of the Philippines for a couple of dollars a day. Next, break down your expenses into initial costs and daily costs. Initial costs include your airline ticket, your backpack, passport, guidebook, hostel card and all other equipment purchased before you leave. Already have some of this stuff? Can you borrow any of it from friends? If so, you're saving money already. If you are headed for Europe, a Eurail pass would also be a wise initial expense. The next thing to consider is how many days you will be away. Obviously, the longer your trip, the more money you will need. Now you can figure out roughly how much you will spend on the following each day: accommodations, food, transportation and sight-seeing. A typical travel budget for one day in Europe might look something like this: Accommodations: $15 Food: $16 Transportation: $4 Sight-seeing: $5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total: $40 You can now multiply your total daily budget by the number of days you will be away. For example, if you were to be gone for one month (30 days), your total cost would be around $1200, just for daily expenses. Then add on your initial costs to get your total travel budget: Daily budget x Number of days + Initial costs = Total budget Remember that these prices are only an example and that your daily budget will be an average. Obviously you won't be paying for museums everyday, but $5/day is a good average. Prices are so variable everywhere you go that a daily budget could be half this (or double). Check your travel guide to get a good idea how much your accommodations might cost. They usually list visa prices as well. And don't forget to allow for any extra expenses. If your calculated total travel budget is much higher than you think you can manage to save up, you shouldn't let that stop you from going abroad. There are plenty of options to travel on the really cheap, and you can always consider finding work abroad. Happy Travels!

The type of jobs you are considering that help desperate people around the world don't pay a lot. Rather than paying big salaries the money goes into directly helping the people.

I'm an International law student and knowing those languages is very useful. Also if you really do want to work for the United Nations. I've heard the pay is very high at the UN but you must have excellent connections to get a job there. Also law school is the usually route to International law and it is very expensive, challanging and boring. So be very careful about choosing that path. Most people (including myself) tend to regret it. The other options I recommend is to get a doctorate and be professor or teacher. Or work for the State Department (be a diplomat). Knowing languages is very useful for those types of jobs but certainly not the only prerequisite. If you are not planing to go to college, then maybe you should look to work for NGO (non-government organization) as a translator or join the Peace Core. Once again, knowing languages is very good qualification but you must know something else so you can teach people some skill in their language otherwise you can only teach them how to speak English. If you want to teach English overseas, try taking a TOESL class. Hope this helps.

Is it true that a lot of the Germans are upset about Greece?

Is it true that a lot of the Germans are upset about Greece?
Are germans mad about Greece. I could see them being mad because it lowers the value of the euro. Do they want greece kicked out of the EU. Or does Germany ever have a plan to drop the euro and make there own money again. Germany has the power to drop the euro why dont they. They might be better of without the euro. What do you think

Yes. Because a part of their currency relies on their productivity.
2 :
Why should they be? They were stupid enough to want the 'Euro", they get what they deserve. Germany better get used to bailing out dumb a$$ countries becasue this is just the beginning. See what happens when we all "share". hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaa
3 :
Who cares about the Germans, or the Greeks
4 :
Good points. Germany is the least unsuccessful State in Europe (and not surprisingly, the least socialist) They should break the trend and get out of the Euro so Britain can get in!
5 :
Yes, as they are providing the bulk of the bail-out finance. Germany has already pumped an enormous amount of wealth into the former East Germany, and now this is another crisis not of their own making they are lumbered with. However, the bail-out is still the least bad option, as having Greece go bankrupt would be much, much worse as that would affect not just the Eurozone, but the wider European and world financial markets.. Hence even many non-Euro countries are contributing to the bail-out with credit lines, to try and spread the burden. I doubt if anyone wants to drop the Euro as there are also many benefits. While many countries have a few tough years ahead because of the recent recession, Greece was eceptionally badly hit because of years of finanial mismanagement. The rest of Eurozone isn't in nearly as bad a state. If anything, there is talk about ejecting Greece from it, though that would just shift the problem outside rather than solve it. Having Greece as a bankrupt basket case would be a really bad idea, as nobody wants that sort of neighbour. Organised crime and terrorists coudl become endemic, and mass migration would be a problem. Better to sort it out, and the strings attached to the bail-out are the best way to enforce that.

Why do people think that money makes you powerful?

Why do people think that money makes you powerful?
My family has friends from cuba, and they were extremely wealthy there up until Fidel Castro took all of their land and money, this is what he did to all rich people when he took over. I have been told the stories as a child, so while growing up I always heard people say, "with money you get power" but this concept never made sense to me. The mafia had casinos in cuba and Fidel Castro took control over them and Fidel did this without money, he just had political power. Now, i read the history of the jews in Germany, they were the richest people in Germany BUT Hitler took away all of their money, businesses and property, and most of all he took their lives. Hitler did not accomplish this by being rich, but he had political power. If you make money, it doesnt mean anything. If you have Political Power, then you can control rich people. SO, Why do people think that money makes you powerful?

it just does, if your rich every whore who just wants your money will do anything for you.
2 :
People my friend are very naive; they think that paper can make you happy and what really makes me tick is that like you said; politics is the answer to richness by power and control... you need to realize, that you're already a rich man cause you're half way to your answer. You'll be wealthy when you recognize that politics is not the answer as well. You see... I've lived both in poverty and in richness and it didn't take long for me to realize that not one is better than the other. With power... comes great responsibilities and with responsibilities comes lots of stress... so the answer to your question is within you; you have the intelligence... you have the heart... use it to your full capacity and you'll be the richness man alive.
3 :
Money is simply the best tool to concreatize your values. If your values are destructive, money will destroy. if your values are life related, money will create. Beware of those that demonize money, for their values are upon their sleeves. Force manipulation an fraud are their means of living.
4 :
sadly, this is true. money will buy you a life if necessary. why do you think there is a war in Congo as we speak and no one cares? No one stops it? Because there's no profit from it. Sadly, money does give you power in this life here.
5 :
Power comes from the people. Everyone has their own share of power. Money is a tool that can control people, and when you control someone, you have their power. A man with money can control all those around him, therefore has more power than someone with no money, who can't control anyone. PS. Money isn't the only form of power.
6 :
Ah yes, political power is most commonly held by the wealthy. However, what the "rich and powerful" most fear is the ideologue who seizes political power by mandate of the poor and even "middle-class" masses using such issues as racism and morality. He often takes the money of the wealthy and gives it to... himself, as the government head responsible for "taking care" of the people and quickly becomes an even greater oppressor of the people than the original wealthy ruling class.
7 :
Power is the means to achieve a result. A powerful person is one who can achieve the results he or she desires. Power, or ability to achieve results, can come from various sources, money is one of these. But money may or may not be sufficient depending on the result desired.

Can you make payments on a plane ticket? or does it have to be straight up?

The only way you can "make payments" is to charge it to a credit card.
2 :
Not directly or on the web. However you might be able to make a deal with a travel agent - but it will be more expensive in the long run. Most people use a credit card & then pay it off in installments. Most airlines will no longer take cash - you must use a credit card.
3 :
as far as i know, payment is expected in full. however, you could apply for a credit card and make payments that way. careful tho - credit cards are evvvviiiiilllllllll!
4 :
american airlines does a buy now pay later type of deal i would check it out
5 :
I think it depends on the airline, I have found some that do allow it. The best thing to do would be to call the airline and ask them. Good luck and have a safe trip.
6 :
If you charge it on you credit card you can make payments and pay the high interest rate the credit card company charges. My advice is to wait until you can afford to pay straight up. This will keep you out of the debt trap that keeps so many Americans in financial trouble.
7 :
Generally, with plane tickets you have to pay in full at the time of the reservation. As plane tickets go up as the date gets closer, now will be the time to buy as you said. They are willing to give up your seat if you don't have the money. It wouldn't be fair to the person who does have the money for them to hold your seat. Do you have a credit card? You may be able to put some of the balance on that and pay the rest cash. If you have a really dire situation, just call the airline and ask. The worst they can do is tell you no.
8 :
American Airlines offers a "fly now, pay later" plan, where you can pay on an installment plan with no interest for six months. I'm sure some other airlines offer similar plans, here's the details: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do;jsessionid=1GJAWO1MJOP0ZEAJJNHSKJUQBFFUGVMD?p=/reservations/flyNowPayLater.jsp
